St Peter's Basilica
Sistine Chapel
Vatican Museum

The Vatican is the world's smallest independent state, unaligned with the UN (recently Switzerland departed this unique group and joined the UN)

St Peter's Basilica and the Piazza san Pietro is one of the most recognised buildings in the world.

The Sistine chapel is one of the most amazing examples of painting while lying down.

The Vatican museums are BIG business

- big queues (if you are lucky you can sneak in on the bus queue!).

- the queue from the east is for the general public.

- extensive and varied art, mostly religious but not exclusively.

- Allow at least one day.

- Get to the Sistine chapel early and revisit the rest when the crowds arrive.
